Government of the Maldives has condemned the violent attacks by Israeli forces on Palestinian civilians in the occupied territory of East Jerusalem, which have been escalating over the recent weeks.
A statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs read the forceful eviction of Palestinian families in Sheikh Jarrah, and the attacks on unarmed Muslim worshipers during the holy month of Ramadan in the Al-Aqsa mosque complex, is a clear violation of international law and the relevant United Nations Security Council (UNSC) and the General Assembly resolutions, and undermines all efforts to achieve stability in the region. The statement said a lasting peace in the Middle East can only be realised through a two-state solution, with an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, living side-by-side with Israel, in peace and security.
Government of the Maldives reaffirmed its solidarity with the Government of Palestine, and reiterated its unwavering support for the legitimate and inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
