Commissioner of Police (CP) Mohamed Hameed has revealed four suspects have been identified in relation to the explosion which injured Speaker of Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed in Male’ on May 6.
In a press conference held on May 7, CP Hameed stated four suspects were identified in relation to the attack, based on suspicious activity and behaviour. However, the CP said further details on the suspects cannot be shared as the investigation is still ongoing.
Speaking further, the police commissioner said preliminary findings of the investigation indicates the attack was a deliberate assassination attempt on the parliament speaker. He noted several international parties have offered to provide assistance to the investigation.
Speaker Nasheed sustained multiple injuries in the blast which occurred near his residence in Male’ while he was getting into his car. Members of his security team and some bystanders were also injured in the explosion.
Speaker Nasheed is currently undergoing treatment at ADK Hospital for his injuries.
