President condemns cowardly attack on Parliament Speaker

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has condemned the cowardly attack against Speaker of Parliament and former President Mohamed Nasheed near his residence in Male’ on May 6.

Speaker Nasheed was injured in an explosion near Neeloafaru Magu, Male’ while he was getting into his car. He is currently undergoing treatment at ADK Hospital for his injuries.

Following the incident, President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih tweeted his condemnation of the cowardly attack on the Speaker. He noted Maldives Police Service (MPS) is investigating the incident.

A large number of officers from MPS and the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) are currently active on the scene of the explosion. The public has been urged not to gather near the area.
