Parliament approves appointment of Shifla Ibrahim to BroadCom

Parliament of the Maldives has approved the appointment of Shifla Ibrahim to the vacant membership position at Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom).

Shifla Ibrahim’s name had been endorsed by the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions, upon review of the three applicants nominated by the President. Her name was approved unanimously by the Parliament with votes from 71 parliamentarians present at the sitting on April 29.

Shifla Ibrahim had worked as a TV presenter, news anchor and journalist at Television Maldives (TVM) for several years. She earned her Bachelors’ Degree in Journalism from Maldives National University (MNU) and a Masters’ Degree in Journalism and Media Communication from the Islamic University of the Maldives (IUM).

A membership position was vacated at BroadCom following the expiry of former member Aminath Saraahath Izzath’s term at the commission. BroadCom is a seven-member commission which currently consists of its President Maryam Waheeda, Vice President Ahmed Gais and members Mohamed Fazeen, Aminath Ameena, Ali Yoosuf and Amjad Waheed.
