Appointment of Non-Resident Ambassador to Qatar sent to committee review

The appointment of Omar Abdul Razzak as the Non-Resident Ambassador of the Maldives to Qatar has been sent to the Parliamentary Committee on Foreign Relations for review.

The decision to appoint a Non-Resident Ambassador to Qatar was announced following the official visit of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to Qatar in March. President Solih had nominated the current High Commissioner of the Maldives to Sri Lanka Omar Abdul Razzak to the be appointed as the Non-Resident Ambassador to Qatar. The nomination has been sent to committee review before final approval by the Parliament.

Maldives reinstated diplomatic ties with Qatar in January, three years after the previous administration decided to severe ties with the Middle Eastern nation. The aim of President Solih’s official visit to Qatar last month was to take the bilateral relationship forward and enhance mutual cooperation between the two countries.
