Election result was a message to resolve pending concerns: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated the result of the recently concluded Local Council Elections (LCE) was a message to the government to resolve the pending concerns of the public.

Speaking at a press conference held on April 12, President Solih said the loss of majority in Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s usual strongholds such as the capital Male’ is a strong message that there are major concerns that need to be resolved. In this regard, the President highlighted the housing issues faced in the Greater Male’ Region as a primary factor in the election result. He assured that the government will undertake extensive efforts to resolve the housing issues faced in the capital.

Speaking further, the President highlighted the COVID-19 pandemic had a major impact on the livelihoods of people, especially in Male’. He said the government is working on ensuring a swift economic recovery following the impacts of the pandemic.

The President said the administration will take this election result seriously and identify all the problems within the state that led to this result. He affirmed the commitment of the administration to address and resolve such problems.
