Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has stated it has not received any complaints that would change the results of the Local Council Elections (LCE) and Women's Development Committee Elections (WDCE).
The elections on April 10 was the largest ever in the Maldives, with 2,264 candidates contesting in the LCE and 1,670 candidates contesting in the WDCE. A total of 1,912 candidates were elected in the polls held an year late due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with 918 elected to the island councils, 196 elected to the atoll councils, 42 elected to the city councils, and 930 elected to the women's development committees.
ECM stated around 67% of the eligible voters came out to vote, and procedures at almost all the polling stations were conducted smoothly with no complaints of long queues. Election observers noted the ECM had adhered to all the guidelines set by the Health Protection Agency (HPA), and the polling stations in the Greater Male' Region were easy-to-use for voters.
President of the ECM Ahmed Shareef said he was proud that such a huge election was conducted smoothly and noted it was due to the support of the citizens, as well as political parties, candidates, and elections officials.
