Muizzu wins seat of Male’ City Mayor

Progressive Party of Maldives (PPM)’s Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has secured the seat of Male’ City Mayor.

As per the latest results, former Housing Minister Muizzu has received 9,300 votes for Male’ City Mayor, while Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP)’s candidate Anas Abdul Sattar received 5,500 votes. Although there are still some uncounted ballots for the seat of Male’ City Mayor, the current lead established by Muizzu is too large to be lost.

With this result, Muizzu becomes the first PPM candidate to win the seat of Male’ City Mayor. Since the establishment of the position in 2011, the seat had always been filled by MDP.
