Over 2,000 police officers active on Voting Day

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed over 2,000 police officers are active on April 10 to increase security during the Local Council Elections (LCE) and Women’s Development Committee Elections (WDCE).

Commissioner of Police Mohamed Hameed began Operation Blue Ray officially at a special ceremony on April 9, the night before the elections. At the ceremony, Commissioner Hameed said the purpose of the operation is to enhance security and ensure the elections are free and fair.

The commissioner revealed 2,194 police officers have been placed on duty for the duration of the elections and advised all officers to quickly respond to any reports of disorder. He also advised police officers to conduct their duties with professionalism, as the operation is an opportunity for officers to increase public trust in the police service by ensuring the safety of voters.

Also at the ceremony, Superintendent of Police and Chief Commander of Operation Blue Ray Mohamed Rasheed said police officers will be active at polling stations in the Greater Male’ Region and the atolls to ensure the safety and security of voters. He said all preparations have been made to conduct Operation Blue Ray in a peaceful and professional manner.
