HPA allows voters to travel without quarantine

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has decided to allow individuals to travel to their registered voting location without having to quarantine.

HPA stated individuals travelling to their registered voting location for the Local Council Elections (LCE) and Women’s Development Committee Elections (WDCE) to be held on April 10 can travel without quarantine until April 11. HPA stated individuals who need to travel to islands from the Greater Male’ Area, resorts, liveaboards or other islands in order to vote for the elections can do so without having to undergo a 10-day quarantine. This includes individuals who need to travel to islands placed under monitoring.

HPA stated individuals travelling to islands for voting are prohibited from visiting public places apart from their polling station. Such individuals must have isolated arrangements for food and accommodation, and are prohibited from meeting up with people and visiting houses. They are also required to leave the island less than 48 hours after voting.

Furthermore, HPA stated such individuals will be casting their vote during the time in which individuals who have tested positive for COVID-19 are voting or any other specific timeframe as instructed by the Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM). They are required to inform the local authorities on their travelling date as well as place and duration of stay, before departure.

HPA has instructed all relevant authorities to ensure they carry out their responsibilities under the regulation issued for voters to travel without quarantine.
