Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Nasheed has revealed parliamentarians can request to classify travels to their representative constituencies as official trips.
Announcing the decision of the General Purpose Committee, Speaker Nasheed said parliamentarians planning to travel to their constituencies should disclose information of the trip in writing when making a request to the Secretariat of the Parliament to classify it as an official trip. He said parliamentarians on official trips to their constituencies are required to join sittings and committee meetings online when requested by the secretariat.
The parliamentary regulations state the speaker has the authority to approve the travel of any parliamentarian within Maldives or abroad for official parliament trips during ongoing sessions.
