Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) has stated its task force will assist residents of islands under monitoring to vote in the upcoming elections.
Health Protection Agency (HPA) has been placing islands under monitoring due to active COVID-19 cases. In a tweet, President of ECM Ahmed Shareef said the HPA has approved citizens to travel within the islands to vote, adding voters in islands under monitoring can travel with the approval of the task force.
Islands currently placed under monitoring include Hulhudhuffaaru, Alifushi and Maduvvari in Raa Atoll, Naifaru and Hinnavaru in Lhaviyani Atoll, Dhiffushi and Huraa in Kaafu Atoll, Meedhoo in Dhaalu Atoll and Thinadhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. ECM said its task force will also be escorting individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 and placed under isolation to the polling stations after the regular polling hours. The task force will also be provided with helpers to act as intermediaries between them and the officials at the polling stations.
ECM has published the voters' list, which shows 273,128 people are eligible to vote in the Local Council Elections (LCE) and Women's Development Committee Elections (WDCE) on April 10.
