Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has published the final voters' list for the upcoming Local Council Elections (LCE) and the Women's Development Committee Elections (WDCE).
The final voters' list was published on the Government Gazette after addressing about 70 complaints filed regarding the preliminary voters' list. ECM revealed complaints were mostly filed regarding registration, such as names not being included on the list.
According to the voters' list, in total 273,128 people are eligible to vote in the upcoming elections. ECM said this includes 5,134 individuals who will be 18 by April 10.
A total of 600 polling stations are to be established in the Greater Male' Region, with 40 stations to be set up in tents, in accordance to the safety guidelines set by the Health Protection Agency (HPA). ECM has decided a maximum of 550 votes will be cast to a single box due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
A total of 3,934 candidates are contesting in the upcoming elections, including 2,264 candidates in LCE and 1,670 candidates in WDCE. The elections will be held on April 10.
