President of Elections Commission of Maldives (ECM) Ahmed Shareef has revealed tents will be established for 40 polling stations in three areas in the Greater Male' Region for the Local Council Elections (LCE) and Women's Development Committee Elections (WDCE) to be held on April 10.
Speaking to PSM News, Shareef said a total of 600 polling stations are to be established in the Greater Male' Region, with some stations to be set up in tents, in accordance to the safety guidelines set by the Health Protection Agency (HPA). Shareef noted three areas in Male' have been approved for setting up tents. Accordingly, he said 30 polling stations are to be established at the Youth Ministry's vacant land, five stations are be established at the former Dharumavantha School premises, and five more stations are to be established in front of the carnival stage area. He added, due to the safety guidelines, a maximum of 550 votes can be placed in a single ballot box.
A total of 3,934 candidates will contest in the elections to be held on April 10, including 2,264 candidates in the LCE and 1,670 candidates in the WDCE.
