Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has states individuals who test positive for COVID-19 and are placed under isolation will be allowed to vote in the upcoming elections after the regular polling hours.
Speaking at a PSM News programme, Acting Secretary General of ECM Hassan Zakariyya said the commission will establish a task force to escort individuals positive for COVID-19 and those under quarantine to the polling stations, to vote in the Local Council Elections (LCE) and Women's Development Committee Elections (WDCE). Hassan said the task force will be handled by the Ministry of Health and local councils, and will escort the voters to the polling stations between 5pm to 6pm, which is after the regular polling hours. He said the voters will also be provided with helpers to act as intermediaries between them and the officials at the polling stations.
A total of 273,128 people are eligible to vote at the LCE and WDCE to be held on April 10.
