President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent a message to President of Pakistan Arif Alvi, following the news that he tested positive for COVID-19.
In the message, President Solih expressed concern that President Alvi tested positive for COVID-19 and wished him a full and speedy recovery on behalf of the people and the government of the Maldives. The President also reiterated the friendly and long-standing relations between the Maldives and Pakistan.
In a tweet, President Alvi said he had tested positive for COVID-19 two weeks after receiving his first dose of an unnamed vaccine for COVID-19. First Lady of Pakistan Samina Alvi tweeted the President had mild symptoms and was in good spirits.
Furthermore, the country's Defence Minister Pervez Khattak also said he had tested positive for COVID-19. Meanwhile, just over a week ago a similar announcement came from Prime Minister Imran Khan after he had received his first dose.
COVID-19 cases are rising rapidly in Pakistan. It has recorded 659,116 infections and more than 14,250 related deaths, with 4,525 infections and 41 deaths reported in the last 24 hours.
