Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has reopened re-registration for individuals who would not be able to maintain the confidentiality of their vote in the upcoming local council election due to the registered voting location.
ECM revealed about 8,000 people have registered to vote in a location that may lead to their vote being revealed upon counting. Circumstances that may lead to their vote being revealed include being the only person voting for a particular constituency at a certain polling station, or being one of very few individuals to be voting for a constituency at a polling station with all of them voting for the same person.
ECM has published the list of all individuals whose voting confidentiality is affected due to the registered location. Such individuals may re-register before March 24.
The local council election is scheduled to be held on April 10. 273,128 people are eligible to vote in the election.
