President congratulates the new President of Tanzania

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has sent a message of congratulations to the new President of Tanzania, Samia Suluhu Hassan, following her assumption of office.

The President sent two separate messages to the new President of Tanzania, the first of which was a message of condolence following the passing of the country's fifth President, John Pombe Joseph Magufuli.

In his message, President Solih said he was deeply saddened to hear of the passing of President John Pombe Joseph Magufuli earlier this month, adding the Maldives grieves the loss of a member of the Commonwealth family. President Solih extended sympathies on behalf of the Maldivian government and people, to the people of Tanzania during this difficult time.

In a separate message, President Solih congratulated new President Samia Suluhu Hassan on becoming the sixth President of Tanzania. The President assured that the Maldives is committed to working together with the Tanzanian government to strengthen bilateral relations and address common concerns, from enhancing trade, overcoming the COVID-19 pandemic, and reversing, mitigating and adapting to the adverse impacts of the climate emergency.

Ending his message, President Solih wished the Tanzanian President and the people of Tanzania success and good fortune in the years to come.
