Maldives to appoint Non-Resident Ambassador to Qatar

The Government of the Maldives has decided to appoint a Non-Resident Ambassador to Qatar. The decision was announced via a tweet by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid, following the state visit of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih to Qatar.

Minister Shahid revealed President Solih has decided to appoint a Non-Resident Ambassador of the Maldives to Qatar, adding the decision has been welcomed by the Government of Qatar. The foreign minister noted this is a positive turning point that will take the bilateral relationship to new heights, with strengthened cooperation in trade and investments.

Maldives reinstated diplomatic ties with Qatar in January, three years after the previous administration decided to severe ties with the Middle Eastern nation. The aim of President Solih’s official visit to Qatar was to take the bilateral relationship forward and enhance mutual cooperation between the two countries.
