The President’s Office has revealed President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih is set to make official visits to Qatar and Bangladesh next week.
Spokesperson at the President’s Office Mohamed Mabrook Azeez said President Solih is set to visit Qatar on March 14, to mark the re-establishment of diplomatic relations between the Maldives and Qatar. Maldives reinstated diplomatic relations with Qatar in January this year, three years after the previous administration severed ties with Qatar.
The spokesperson said the visit to Qatar will be followed by a visit to Bangladesh on March 15, to mark the 100th birth anniversary of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding leader of Bangladesh. Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had served as both President and Prime Minister of Bangladesh, before he was assassinated in 1975. He is the father of current Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
