ECM urges voters to re-register early

Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) has urged voters to re-register early for the upcoming Local Council Elections (LCE) and Women’s Development Committee Elections (WDCE).

On March 2, ECM opened re-registration for voters who wish to change the registered voting location. The re-registration window closes on March 11.

Responding to concerns on the short period available for re-registration, President of ECM Ahmed Shareef said re-registration is always opened for 10 days for every election. Shareef revealed there was very little activity during the first two days of re-registration, although applications have started to increase in the last few days. He urged voters to re-register early instead of waiting until the last minute.

Re-registration forms must be submitted to the Electoral Headquarters in Male’, and the respective local councils in the atolls. Voters can check their registered location through the website of ECM or through the designated SMS hotline.
