60 expatriates to be deported for working illegally in resorts

Maldives Immigration has ordered 60 expatriates to be deported from the Maldives for working illegally in Maldivian resorts.

Immigration said it has been notified of several cases where expatriates entering the Maldives under different permits have been working outside of the permitted line of work in resorts. As such, Immigration noted several expatriates were found working illegally as photographers and musicians in resorts, hindering the opportunities for local artists. The authority revealed 60 such expatriates have been ordered to be deported from the Maldives.

Immigration further warned action will be taken against resorts and other businesses bringing in unauthorised expatriates to work in fields that hinder opportunities for locals.
