No serious injuries sustained during Manta Air seaplane crash

Manta Air has revealed no serious injuries were sustained during the seaplane crash which occurred near Male’ on February 14.

A Manta Air seaplane crashed into the sea near Velana International Airport (VIA) at approximately 0730hrs on February 14. The seaplane was carrying 6 passengers and 3 crew members when it crashed while landing.

Manta Air said no one was seriously injured, although some sustained minor injuries. The airline said all crew members and passengers will be taken to hospital for a medical checkup.

Manta Air revealed the plane is still underwater, where divers of Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) are currently active. The airline said efforts are ongoing to recover the luggage which had been on board the plane.

Following the incident, all other seaplanes of Manta Air travelling to Male’ have been diverted to other locations.
