National flag to be flown at half-mast following death of State Dignitary Late Ibrahim Rasheed

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has declared that the national flag be flown at half-mast in mourning, from February 1 till the end of February 3, following the passing away of State Dignitary, Order of the Distinguished Rule of Izzuddin, (late) Ibrahim Rasheed.

State Dignitary late Ibrahim Rasheed passed away at his residence on January 31, at the age of 92 years. He is a descendant of the Huravee Dynasty, which ruled the nation in the past.

State Dignitary, late Ibrahim Rasheed began his employment in the government on November 24, 1942 as a Secretary at the Bodu Store and continued his services to the Government for more than 65 years in different positions and capacities.

Notably, late Ibrahim Rasheed served as Secretary to former President Mohamed Ameen during his reign as the President of the first Republic, and climbed several ranks during his service to the nation. He was also a key figure working alongside then Prime Minister, and later President, Ibrahim Nasir, in securing the agreement allowing the Maldives complete political independence from the British empire.
