Health Ministry hands over 16 projects to local councils

Ministry of Health has handed over 16 projects under the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP) to the respective local councils.

The handover was signed during a special ceremony held at the health ministry. The handover was carried out in accordance to the amended Decentralisation Act. Projects handed over to councils during the ceremony were worth approximately USD 2.9 million.

Speaking at the ceremony, Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem said strengthening the public health sector will be a vital part of the efforts to decentralise the healthcare services of the Maldives. He said the aim is to maximise the benefits to the public through the planned PSIP projects in the atolls.

The health ministry stated the projects are expected to begin within about two months. The ministry called on councils to ensure the projects are carried out without delays.
