Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Abdulla Shahid has sent a message of condolence to Minister of Foreign Affairs of Indonesia Retno L.P. Marsudi, following the tragic death of more than 60 people due to the plane crash of Sriwijaya flight SJ182 on January 9.
In his message, Minister Shahid said he was deeply shocked to learn about the tragic news of the crash of Sriwijaya flight SJ182 off the coast of Java, shortly after taking off from Jakarta, causing the loss of lives of more than 60 people. He conveyed sincere condolences, on behalf of the Government and the people of the Maldives, to the Government of Indonesia and the families of the deceased.
Sriwijaya Air Flight SJ182 took off from Jakarta to Pontianak in West Kalimantan before disappearing off the radar just four minutes after departure. Officials confirmed that the aircraft crashed in the waters off the Thousand Islands, some 19 km off the Soekarno–Hatta International Airport.
