President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has conveyed greetings of the National Unity Day to all Maldivians.
In a tweet posted on the occasion of the National Unity Day, President Solih conveyed greetings and well-wishes of the day to all Maldivian citizens. He also prayed for the safety of the Maldives in the face of global disasters, and expressed hope unity will continue to prevail in resolving national issues.
The National Unity Day is marked on December 26, to commemorate the strong unity and togetherness showed by the country in overcoming the devastating impact of the Indian Ocean Tsunami that hit the country on December 26, 2004. 82 Maldivians lost their lives in the Tsunami, while a further 26 people remain missing. Over 15,000 people lost their homes in the Tsunami, with people from 13 islands relocated temporarily and people from 6 islands relocated permanently.
