The President's Office has announced the awarding ceremony for the National Awards and President's Special Awards will be held on December 26, 2020.
The National Awards and President’s Special Awards Ceremony is planned to be held at 2030 hours on December 26 at the Republic Square in Male’ City. The ceremony is organised by the Ministry of Home Affairs.
President’s Office revealed all planning ad preparations for the ceremony are being conducted in line with instructions from the Health Protection Agency (HPA), with full COVID-19 safety precautions in place. As such, the President’s Office noted the number of invitees to this year's ceremony has been lowered under the guidance of the HPA.
This year’s National Awards was previously scheduled to be presented to recipients during the National Day function on October 18. However, the President’s Office announced on October 11 that the annual National Day function would not be held this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The National Awards are presented to outstanding individuals, civil institutions, private companies and organisations, for contributions to national development and in recognition of and honouring exceptional and continuous services towards nurturing a healthier and more vibrant society. The opportunity to submit nominations for the awards was opened from August 27 to September 10.
The President's Special Achievement Awards Committee announced it had accepted 57 applications out of the 94 nominations received for this year’s President’s Award for Special Achievement.
