Maldives and Eswatini establish diplomatic relations

Maldives and Eswatini have formally established diplomatic relations.

The Joint Communique formalising diplomatic relations between the two countries was signed on behalf of the Government of the Maldives by Permanent Representative of the Maldives to the United Nations Thilmeeza Hussain. The Joint Communique was signed on behalf of the Government of Eswatini by Permanent Representative of Eswatini to the United Nations Melusi Martin Masuku. The Joint Communique was signed at a ceremony held at the Permanent Mission of the Maldives to the United Nations in New York.

The establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries paves the way for the two countries to cooperate further in the international arena in areas of mutual interest. Following the establishment of diplomatic relations with Eswatini, the Maldives currently maintains diplomatic relations with 175 countries.

Eswatini is a landlocked country situated in Southern Africa, bordering Mozambique and South Africa, with a population of approximately 1.1 million.
