Maldives has taken part in the Asia and Pacific Finance and Sector Ministers Meeting organized by Sanitation and Water for All (SWA).
The virtual meeting is held by SWA to urge finance ministers to agree on innovative ways to finance universal access to water, sanitation and hygiene. Maldives is represented at the meeting by Minister of Finance Ibrahim Ameer and Minister of Environment Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan. Other countries taking part in the meeting include India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Bhutan, Indonesia, Cambodia, Vietnam, Laos and Fiji.
Speaking at the meeting, CEO of SWA Catarina de Albuquerque highlighted the key role finance ministers play in creating an enabling environment and mobilizing new sources of finance for water, sanitation and hygiene. She expressed belief finance ministers can unblock some of the constraints to increase finance in the sector, reform tariffs and subsidies and provide access to green climate funds.
SWA is a global partnership committed to achieving universal access to clean drinking water and adequate sanitation. SWA has over 100 partners, including governments, civil society and development partners.
