Parliament committee passes decision to dismiss ECM Vice President

Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions has passed the decision to dismiss Vice President of Elections Commission of the Maldives (ECM) Ahmed Akram, over allegations of sexual harassment.

The committee approved the dismissal motion on November 18, after conducting an inquiry into the allegations. During the inquiry process, the victim and other members of ECM were summoned to the committee for questioning, along with Akram.

Akram was appointed to ECM for a second term on March 23. He had also previously served as commissioner and spokesperson at ECM.
