Maldives Police Service (MPS) has revealed the remand period of suspects arrested during the terrorism operation conducted this week has been extended.
On November 11, MPS announced it had thwarted a terrorist activity which was being planned in the Maldives. MPS revealed 6 people had been arrested during the operation, all of whom are local males. The police revealed the remand period of an 18-year old suspect has been extended 5 days, while the remand of the remaining suspects has been extended to 15 days.
MPS had earlier revealed a vessel has also been captured within the seas of Kaafu Atoll as part of the operation, and an inspection is currently ongoing in some other locations. MPS said the alleged act of terrorism was planned by extremist elements.
