Maldives Media Council (MMC) has called on all relevant authorities to ensure the work of journalists are not obstructed.
In a statement, MMC said it is mandated to ensure all media outlets are given the opportunity to practice journalism freely and fairly. MMC stated any action from a private party or from a state institution that obstructs journalists is unacceptable.
In its statement, MMC highlighted some journalists who went to cover recent protests and political gatherings have faced difficulties in delivering information to the public. In this context, MMC called on all authorities to ensure all journalists are given the opportunity to practice their work professionally.
Furthermore, MMC urged journalists to follow the laws and regulations, reminding them to carry the permits issued by the Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom) while covering events, protests and gatherings.
