JSC suspends Maamendhoo Chief Magistrate for two months

Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has suspended Chief Magistrate of Maamendhoo Magistrate Court Ahmed Shukoor for two months.

Shukoor was suspended by JSC due to an ongoing investigation on multiple accusations of misconduct raised against him. As such, he is accused of having an illegal meeting with a defense lawyer in a case submitted to the court in April 2018, as well as taking part in a political event held to gather support for a candidate contesting in the 2018 presidential elections. He is also accused of publicly endorsing a certain political party in August 2018.

JSC revealed a statement has been obtained from Shukoor regarding the accusations raised against him.
