MNU marks 53 years with focus on student, staff wellbeing

The Maldives National University (MNU) has marked its 53rd anniversary with a series of sporting activities.

The activities took place at the Henveiru and Galolhu grounds. Speaking at the opening, Vice Chancellor Dr Aishath Shehenaz Adam said they provided a valuable opportunity to strengthen unity and friendship. She said one of the university’s main priorities in recent years has been to create a healthy environment where students and staff can study and work effectively.

Vice Chancellor Dr Shehenaz said ensuring employees’ social security is also a key priority in supporting their health and wellbeing. She described the Government’s allocation of a 20,000-square-foot plot specifically for staff housing as an important step towards improving employees’ quality of life.

MNU has also begun installing air conditioning in all student accommodation blocks to further improve students’ living environment and provide healthier, more comfortable living conditions.

Alongside the sporting activities, the anniversary programme included a cake-cutting ceremony and a photography activity. MNU also launched a helpline under “MNU With You” at the opening ceremony.

Vice Chancellor Dr Shehenaz described the helpline as an important resource for providing assistance and guidance to every student and staff member when they face difficulties.

The 1558 helpline focuses specifically on supporting the mental and physical wellbeing of MNU students and staff. Vice Chancellor Dr Shehenaz said the service provides reassurance that MNU will always stand with its students and staff.
