PCR machine brought to Maafaru Airport

A Polymerised Chain Reaction (PCR) machine, which is used to test COVID-19 samples, has been brought for the laboratory to be established in Maafaru International Airport.

The PCR machine was procured to Maafaru Airport by ADK Trade and Shipping Private Limited. Speaking to PSM News, Executive Director of ADK Trade and Shipping Mohamed Fardeen said the PCR machine will be installed along with other required equipment and facilities, as soon as construction work of the laboratory is completed. He noted the laboratory has been designed by the company in accordance to the guidelines of World Health Organisation (WHO), while the Standard Operational Procedure (SOP) to be followed in operating the PCR laboratory has also been provided by the company.

The COVID-19 testing laboratory is being established in Maafaru Airport by Soneva Group, which operates the Soneva chain of resorts. Construction of the laboratory, along with acquiring the required permits, is carried out by Soneva Group.

Operator of Maafaru International Airport, Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) revealed the airport will be fully operational as an international airport starting from July 1.
