Ministry of Foreign Affairs has revealed 446 Maldivians have been evacuated from abroad since June 15.
Statistics from the foreign ministry revealed 198 Maldivians were repatriated from Malaysia on June 15, followed by another 175 on June 17. The ministry also revealed 66 Maldivians were evacuated from India via 3 different repatriation flights which arrived in the Maldives since June 16 to repatriate Indian nationals stranded in the Maldives. A further 7 Maldivians were repatriated from Nepal on June 16.
The foreign ministry has been working to provide opportunities for Maldivians stranded abroad due to the COVID-19 pandemic to return home. The ministry has urged Maldivians stranded abroad to use the opportunity provided by chartered flights arriving in the Maldives.
