Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has begun investigating disciplinary issues of four judges.
JSC revealed disciplinary investigations have been launched against Chief Judge of Civil Court Abdulla Ali, Chief Magistrate of Kondey Magistrate Court Mohamed Ibrahim, Magistrate of Fuvahmulah Magistrate Court Mul-haa Ali and Chief Magistrate of Hulhumale' Magistrate Court Siyam Mohamed.
JSC stated Chief Judge Abdulla Ali is under investigation in relation to an annulment of a case without bringing in the allocated representative of the individual pressing the charges. Meanwhile, JSC is investigating Chief Magistrate Mohamed Ibrahim for negligence in allowing the hire of an administrative officer to the court against the regulations on hiring individuals with family relations.
Furthermore, JSC revealed Magistrate Mul-haa Ali is being investigated in relation to four different complaints. The complaints include having prohibited relations with people involved in cases submitted to Fuvahmulah Magistrate Court, revising the remand order of another magistrate of the court accused of sexual assault, active involvement in a family business and tempering of evidence to obstruct a police investigation. Meawhile, Chief Magistrate Siyam Mohamed is under investigation for acting irresponsibly and against the due process when issuing a remand order.
JSC stated the committees to investigate the cases have been formed.
