Ameena approved as a member of BroadCom

Parliament of the Maldives has approved Aminath Ameena as a member of Maldives Broadcasting Commission (BroadCom). The nomination to appoint Ameena to BroadCom was passed unanimously with votes from 63 parliamentarians.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih nominated 11 candidates to be appointed to the last vacant position at BroadCom. Of the 11 nominations, 3 were withdrawn during the interview process conducted by the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions.

The voting was called based on the order on preference by the committee following an interview and vetting process. As Ameena was the first name on the list and received enough votes to confirm her appointment, the other names on the list were not called for voting.

BroadCom, led by 7-members, is tasked with ensuring that broadcasters comply with the Broadcasting Act.
