The Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development announced that it is seeking a consultancy firm to prepare the master plan for the Rasmale’ development project, a flagship initiative aimed at alleviating the chronic housing shortage in the greater Male’ region.
Under President Dr Mohamed Muizzu’s vision, the 1,010‑hectare reclaimed island is slated to provide up to 200,000 housing units over the next 20 years. Dredging work is already underway, with more than 500 hectares reclaimed to date.
The tender covers a baseline study, an urban‑development framework, a land‑use plan, shore protection measures and related development activities. The master plan will also integrate environmentally‑friendly construction, renewable‑energy supply, utility‑service design, transportation networks and accessibility for people with special needs. Interested firms must submit their bids by 13 July 10:00 a.m.
At a press conference a day earlier, President Muizzu said that land allocation for recipients will commence after the dredging of Rasmale’ is completed. He added that the project had been delayed because of the increase in global oil prices, but preparations are now underway to resume the work. The President confirmed that the dredging will be carried out using two dredgers, with the aim of completing all dredging before the end of this year.
Positioned as a climate‑resilient, eco‑friendly city, Rasmale’ will be powered by renewable energy and include facilities to reduce environmental impacts.
