Minister of Tourism Ali Waheed has stated three more resorts have been allocated as transit facilities for those who are stranded in Male' City amid the lockdown and restrictions.
In a tweet, the tourism minister announced Hondaafushi in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Filitheyo in Faafu Atoll and Medhufushi in Meemu Atoll will be utilised as transit quarantine facilities for people seeking to islands from Male' City.
The government decided to quarantine people returning to islands from Male' City for a period of 14-days as containment measures and as part of efforts to restrict carriage of the virus from capital to outer atolls. The tourism minister requested all citizens to be patient during this trying time, appealing everyone to follow the advice of authorities.
The authorities temporarily halted the use of quarantine facilities allocated in islands for people returning to islands. However, those returning to islands are required to go through a 14-day quarantine period in a transit facility allocated by the government.
Herathere in Addu Atoll, Iruveli in Dhaalu Atoll, Fushifaru in Lhaviyani Atoll and Furaveri in Raa Atoll are already used to quarantine the people stranded in Male' upon their return to the island. Individuals seeking to return to islands can only return after being tested for COVID-19 following the completion of the 14-day mark at a quarantine facility.
