The Bank of Maldives (BML) has signed an agreement with Singapore Management University (SMU) to enhance leadership development among its employees.
BML stated that this agreement is a strategic partnership between the two institutions aimed at strengthening collaboration in leadership development, professional education, and enhancing capabilities among staff.
Under this agreement, the existing collaboration between the BML Academy and SMU Academy focused on professional training will be further expanded. The BML Academy is an initiative established to deliver specialised programmes for the education and professional development of the bank’s employees.
Through this partnership, SMU will support the design and delivery of tailored training programmes specifically developed for BML staff. Additionally, through structured frameworks for knowledge and skills exchange, the bank expects to further enhance the professional competencies of its employees. As a result, efforts by the BML Academy to provide high-quality training opportunities and facilitate continuous professional development pathways will be strengthened.
Commenting on the partnership, the CEO and Managing Director of Bank of Maldives, Mohamed Shareef, said the collaboration reflects the bank’s ongoing commitment to building strong leaders and enhancing expertise across all areas of the organisation. He noted that, as the largest financial institution in the Maldives, the bank plays a key role in supporting economic growth.
“Through the BML Academy, we are developing structured educational programmes aligned with international standards. This initiative will help empower future leaders of our economy,” Shareef said.
As part of last year’s key initiatives with SMU, 40 BML employees successfully completed leadership programmes. Of these, 20 senior employees earned SMU’s Executive Certificate in Leadership and People Management, while another 20 completed an SMU-led certificate programme and subsequently obtained a Certificate in Leadership and People Management through the BML Academy.
As collaboration between SMU and the BML Academy continues to strengthen, additional training programmes of this nature are already underway.
