The High Commission of India in the Maldives has revealed 750 Indian nationals have been repatriated from the Maldives via the Indian naval ship, INS Jalashwa.
The Indian high commission said the naval ship has departed to Cochin with the first batch of Indian nationals to be evacuated from the Maldives. The high commission said priority was given to evacuate pregnant women, individuals who have lost their jobs and tourists stranded in the Maldives. The high commission all 750 individuals repatriated today will undergo a 14-day quarantine period after reaching India.
Meanwhile, the government of the Maldives has revealed 200 Maldivian nationals stranded across 9 Indian cities will be repatriated within the next week. Ministry of Foreign Affairs revealed Maldivians are being evacuated from New Delhi, Punjab, Kolkata, Chennai, Vellore, Rishikesh, Gurgaon, Trivandrum and Cochin. The foreign ministry stated Maldivians in India will be repatriated on a chartered flight of the national airline, Maldivian.
