Akram appointed to ECM for an additional term

Parliament of Maldives has approved the appointment of the current Vice President of Election Commission of Maldives (ECM) Ahmed Akram as a member of ECM for an additional term.

Akram was appointed as a member of ECM to a new term with votes from 72 parliamentarians. He applied for an additional term in office after President's Office announced for new membership applications as Akram's current term ends on March 23.

While the current vice president of the commission topped the list of the nominations for the position, former vice president Ahmed Fayaz and two other nominations completed the list of nominees. The other nominees are Mariyam Haneefa Khalid and Ahmed Mansoor.

President's Office will announce to seek a new member as the term of the current President of ECM Ahmed Shareef also ends this year.
