Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has stated conveying the history of Maldives to future generations without alteration is a responsibility on all Maldivians. The foreign minister made the remarks while addressing the ceremony held to mark the National History Day.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Shahid stated Maldivian history has been passed on by the forefathers, adding lessons learnt from history is used to build the future. He said current generations must responsibly convey Maldivian history to future generations without alteration so that future generations may also use historic events to ensure the mistakes committed in the past are not repeated.
The foreign minister noted some scholars believe recording history is unnecessary and resources used to record history would be better used for more essential purposes. However, the minister said the issue is widely debated upon, noting history is recorded for many important reasons. He said history teaches many lessons and provides the opportunity to learn from past mistakes.
