The government revised green tax rates on 1 January 2025, increasing the fee from USD 6 to USD 12 for higher-end tourist establishments and from USD 3 to USD 6 for others. Children under the age of two are exempt from the tax.

According to the ministry, the largest portion of income was generated in April, at USD 14.62 million. December ranked in second at USD 14.10 million.

When observing taxes collected by location, Kaafu Atoll contributed the greatest share of funds, at USD 4.84 million. Raa Atoll is in second place at USD 1.42 million while Alif Dhaalu Atoll comes in third at USD 1.30 million.

The government earmarks this fund for several environmental projects in islands, such as environmental cleanup and beach protection initiatives as well as the installation of water supply and drainage systems.
