National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) has revealed plans to establish a National Action Plan on preventing violent extremism.
Speaking at the ceremony held to inaugurate the National Roundtable and Consultations on UN Office on Drugs & Crime (UNODC) and Interpol to support Maldives on counterterrorism, Director of NCTC Zakariyya Mansoor said the government has been conducting important projects in efforts to curb terrorism and extremism in the country. In this regard, Zakariyya Mansoor noted with the support from UNODC, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and financial assistance form Japanese government, major progress has been made.
Zakariyya said once the national plan is launched actions to take against individuals who have extremist ideologies will be identified with further efforts initiated to curb terrorism. He noted the workshop will assist to further boost efforts of Maldivian government to counter terrorism.
NCTC said 27 government officials participated in the workshop.
