Revised investigation report of three murders nearly complete: DDCom

Presidential Commission on Investigation of Murders and Enforced Disappearances (DDCom) has stated the revised investigation report on the murders of Dr. Afrasheem Ali, Ahmed Rilwan and Yameen Rasheed is nearly complete.

DDCom had initially forwarded the charges against the suspected perpetrators of the three murders to the Prosecutor General’s Office (PG Office) last December. However, the charges were rejected by PG Office, claiming the investigation was inadequate.

Member of DDCom Fareesha Abdulla said the commission is working on completing the investigation report in accordance to the requirements set by PG Office, noting the revised report is nearly complete. Fareesha added charges will be forwarded to PG Office very soon.

The initial charges were pressed against Mohamed Mazeed and Saamith Mohamed, who were accused of spreading extremist ideologies which were behind all three murders. DDCom had also pressed charges against former Islamic Minister Dr. Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed for providing false information and obstructing the investigation of the murder of Afrasheem.

The initial charges were rejected by PG Office on December 31, 2019.
