President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has pledged to save Maldives from terrorist activities and keep Maldives safe.
Addressing the councilors at the closing ceremony of councilors conference held at Crossroads Maldives, President Solih said the perils of terrorism must not be kept a secret due to the dangers it poses. He said the administration must fight against terrorist activities considering the prevalence of such activities in the community. The president assured the public the administration and the security forces would stay strong in overcoming the threats of terrorism and provide a more peaceful and a stable environment for the people of the Maldives.
Furthermore, president responded to questions raised by people regarding empowering the councils. Stating that many are still raising questions on whether the government will grant powers to the councils, he said the administration will grant all powers to councils to carry administrative duties mandated to councils in the decentralisation act.
During his speech, president called on councilors to involve the public more in the decision-making process. He further called to involve the people more in allocating the budget for developmental activities.
Moreover, president assured to establish a better communication system between councils and ministries council do not currently have a good relationship with the ministries. He concluded the speech expressing hope the conference delivered the necessary information and changes to the decentralisation act to councilors.
