Vice President Faisal Naseem has noted Hospitals in India have been welcoming Maldivian patients for many years, adding for many Maldivians, India is like a second home. The vice president made the statement during a visit to NIMS Medicity in Kerala as part of his official visit to India.
Vice President was received at the hospital by Managing Director of NIMS Faisal Khan, upon arrival, and was brief regarding the services and facilities available at NIMS Medicity for Maldivian medical tourists. The vice president toured several facilities at the hospital, including the freshly launched Child Development Research Centre (SPECTRUM) which provides comprehensive rehabilitation services for differently-abled children. He also toured the Integration and Autism Centre and the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation which provides coordinated, and multidisciplinary care focused on early identification and treatment.
Following the tour, the vice president also observed the creative artwork and handicrafts display by differently-abled patients of the hospital and was presented with a short briefing by Dr M.K.C. Nair, Director of NIMS Spectrum and Chief consultant of Developmental medicine.
Meeting the management and staff of the hospital, Vice President Naseem emphasised on the strong bond of friendship between the people of Maldives and India and described Thiruvananthapuram as a second home for many Maldivians. In this regard, he expressed gratitude to Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, the government, and the people of India, for continued cooperation and assistance in various avenues. He further spoke about the role of Indian nations in the progress and development of Maldives, stressing the critical part played by teachers in the education sector, in addition to engineering and technical fields.
